Life in London

Layton Williams

TL: What’s your first memory of London?
LW: Omg, the Elephant and Castle roundabout. Bless my auntie and mum; they were driving me to my final audition for Billy Elliot from Manchester, and we were so late because of traffic. We were just going round and round. Luckily, I killed it and got the job (lols), but that was stressful. It always makes me smile when I pass it now, though.

Out & About

TL: Last play you saw?
LW: Oliver in the West End. It’s hard to see theatre when you’re doing eight shows a week yourself, but I try to support my friends and watch as many shows as possible. The kids in this were fabulous. It’s Matthew Bourne’s directorial debut, and he smashed it. Such a classy production.

TL: Last exhibition you went to?
LW: Naomi Campbell's In Fashion exhibition at the V&A. I’m obsessed with 90s supermodels and fashion, so it was a really fun one to visit.

TL: Bicycle, Bus, Taxi, or Tube?
LW: Weather pending, I actually love a bike, you know. I have one, but now that Lime bikes are all the rage, it’s just so much easier to crack on with your day. If the weather’s trash, though, I am a sucker for a taxi. Living in South East London, the tubes are a myth, so I’m all about ease. Plus, you can get lots of things done in a cab—like this interview!

The Londoner Specific

TL: Favourite thing about The Londoner?
LW: The location is pretty amazing. I walked to my theatre in literally one minute on press night. And of course, the spa. So gorgeous. That vegan toasted sandwich was everything.

TL: Favourite cocktail at 8 at The Londoner?
LW: Espresso martini—slapped.
